So windy that today they called for sustained winds of about 70 km/h and gusts of up to 120 km/h -- that's 75 miles per hour!

I just got back from a run, and it sure felt as though I was running in place at times. It's hard to capture the intensity of the wind in a photo, so I'll just share a shot of one of the sculptures featured along Wellington's harbour front. It was created by English artist Max Patte and titled "Solace in the Wind."
Naked man statues freak me out...plus that dude looks like he's peeing in the pool! But, then again, if it's that windy I wouldn't recomend it.
ReplyDeleteThese constant howling winds are depressing, aren't they. I know this city of wellington has a deserved reputation for wind, but three months of near ceaseless gales is a bit much even for here. Everyone's pretty much been driven stir crazy. Al Gore - what's going on? Where's the global warming?Whatever happened to summer? At least when the Santa Ana, Mistral or Sirocco blow, they're warm!
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonder the statue does not topple over into the water with such high winds. But what a beautiful area for a run that is!
